New Year's Eve

We didn't plan anything for New Years because it was Andrew's duty day on the ambulance. We thought that this would be a night of lots and lots of calls, so we figured it would be best if we didn't commit to anything. Though I was a little reluctant, Andrew brought home a ride-along consent form for me to sign so that I could go on a call or two with him, just to see what it was like. So I filled it out and we turned it in so that I could ride along on any calls that came in for New Years Eve. After a little while though, I got really giddy and couldn't wait to go on a call, so we were sitting there, twiddling our thumbs waiting for the radio to tone out. We even made a quick trip down to the station so that I could get well acquainted with the ambulance, should I need to grab anything for somebody or whatever. Well, nothing came in. We kind of figure that the full moon counteracted the New Year, kind of like a double negative, and so that's why there weren't any calls on the 31st. So Andrew spent the evening reading and watching TV and I helped my mom with some wedding flowers.

As we put the last flower into this bouquet at ten after midnight on the first, a call came in! And even though it was a pretty tame call, I absolutely loved it. I loved seeing the EMTs in action (especially Andrew, of course). We went on two more the next night and I had just as much fun (not that strapping people to back boards and stepping in vomit is fun in the traditional sense, but I thought it was awesome). Unfortunately, I had so much fun that I'm considering volunteering myself, but I won't be able to do that for quite some time since the kiddos are still young and can't exactly be left alone. But I figure I've got time to do it down the road, and for now I can just cheer Andrew on has he does it.

So that's how we spent our New Year's Eve. Wedding flowers, vomit, and flashing red lights on the snow along Highway 95. Definitely won't be forgotten anytime soon!
